I can finally announce that I have been cast as Queen Guinevere in Idle Muse Theatre Company's upcoming World Premiere production of The Last Queen of Camelot! We open on March 23rd, 2023 at Edge Theatre off Broadway with two previews and official opening night is on March 25th, 2023, then we run until April 23rd, 2023!
We're only less than 2 official weeks into rehearsal, but this show has been so fun. Getting to perform in Idle Muse Theatre Company's Upon This Shore: Pericles and the Daughters of Tyre last season really reintroduced me to theatre work and it was a great way to be more prepared to take on Guinevere in this show. I can feel myself working to be more prepared at each rehearsal- memorizing lines when I can and taking direction better while in rehearsal! My a** is rather sore from doing an incorrect sit-fall, but that will get better with more practice as well! Yes, there is some great fight choreography in this show and yes, I will actually be in some of the fights! Our wonderful fight choreographers are aware of my two left feet and "know me of old," so my fights are short and quick, but what we've been able to rehearse so far has been very fun and I think will turn out great as long as I don't screw anything up!
The cast in this show is especially amazing. I love working with actors that I know and who know me, some for close to ten years now, and getting to meet new actors who teach me new ways to do and approach the work! There is nothing but ease in creating a shared history and chemistry on stage with these actors, along with delightful glaring jabs thrown across the stage at some of these amazing actors as well.
This is a dream role for me. I never knew how much I wanted to play this role until we started doing read throughs of J. Comyns Carr's original 1895 script of King Arthur and then Evan Jackson's wonderful reworkings and rewrites of the script to bring us The Last Queen of Camelot. There's love, romance, betrayal, intrigue, wisdom and valiant fights for the throne! It's everything an actress could want to play and I am just so grateful for the amazing opportunity and can only hope I do the role and the beautiful play that our fantastic director, Evan Jackson, has written justice!
I will look forward to updating this blog further, even just for my own amusement, and getting to report on how it all plays out! If you're reading this, I hope to see you in the theater!
